Optoelectronics, quantum computing and artificial 'general intelligence'

A new paper has suggested that Optoelectronics, in combination with quantum computers, could create artificial systems with general intelligence comparable to humans' intelligence.

Convergence: it is one of the most critical drivers of innovation. When different technologies combine, the result can become spectacular. Maybe convergence provides the answer to that most elusive of technology challenges: artificial general intelligence. The result could perhaps be computers with human type cognitive ability. And the convergence could involve optoelectronics – electronic devices that use light – and superconductors– substances that conduct electricity with zero resistance. Superconducting computing typically operates at below 10 degrees Kelvin and is closely associated with quantum computers.
