Are digital nomads on the rise?

The boss of Airbnb claims that people no longer need to be tethered to the same location to work. Is the era of digital nomads upon us?

I don't want to burden you with my problems, but my laptop comes with me on holiday. If you are involved in a startup or are freelancing, you don't get paid when you travel. My holiday of a lifetime was to Egypt, and one day I had a 6 am start on a day trip to Luxor — so I had to work through the night. Some people felt sorry for me, but hey, I like it that way.

The Airbnb boss has said: "We expect travel to be very different to before the pandemic. People are discovering that they don't have to be tethered to one location to live and work."

Is he right?
